Classroom volunteering is a great way to stay connected to your student's learning at Champlain. We welcome volunteers in the room and below you find a few ideas on how to get involved!
Our literacy block is every day from 8:45-10:40 am. Ideally, we'd love if volunteers could commit to a certain day for a defined stretch of time, for example, you might take Wednesdays, or even share Wednesdays with another parent. We start with a lesson about a specific literacy skill, then students work independently while teachers conference or work with small groups. We love having volunteers who can help keep our young readers and writers focused on their work during independent time. Our expectation is that students are practicing the day's skill during this time, and perhaps preparing an example to share with the group at the end of Readers' Workshop. Champlain School has a new protocol requiring all volunteers to attend an informational training prior to working with children. Please let us know if you are interested in volunteering during our literacy time!
Field Trips usually provide an opportunity for parent chaperones. We'll send you information as trips get confirmed. If you know you want to participate in a field trip this year, let us know and we'll keep you on our list!
Work Celebrations - Several times throughout the year, you will be invited in to celebrate the hard work we're doing! We often do this as a culmination and celebration of a unit in Math, or Writing, or maybe something else.
Have a special skill or resource that connects to our curriculum? Please feel free to get in touch and plan a special event!
